Photographic Research and Inquiry



In Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, the visuals in the movie are incredible. I chose this one of Alice slowly walking passed the tall flower faces into the gate where the giant mushrooms bloomed because the visuals not only give you an awe of amazement, but in depth it gives the meaning of young girls maturing and stepping into a new experience in life. I noticed four distinct elements of compositional strategies in this image which include open frame, alternate point of view, shape, and frame within a frame. However, what is pretty cool about the image is how if you were to black out the background of the gate and the mushroom field, it becomes a closed frame due to the closeness of the flower faces and their definite features. The aura of this image gives me the feel of how I felt from leaving high school to going into college. It is an accomplishment to better ourselves with the education of college level courses, so for me the sad faces would mean leaving my family and hometown friends towards my next journey. Life is like the stepping stones towards the path that is being walked on with the lessons and hardships we learn to overcome. As colorful as the image is there are very significant hidden meanings for the youth
